A base silver Roman radiate of Gordian III (AD 238-44), with the reverse of a piece of Philip I (AD 244-9), dating to the period c. AD 244-249 (Reece Period 12). AEQVITAS AVGG reverse type depicting Aequitas standing left, her right arm extended down holding scales and her left arm holding cornucopiae. Hybrids, with obverses and reverses from different reigns, are quite common in this period. P M TR P IIII COS II P P reverse type depicting Apollo seated left holding branch, resting elbow on lyre. Prototype of the mint of Rome. This is a hybrid type combining an obverse of Rome issues 1-3 and a reverse of Rome issue 4 (cf. RIC IV.3, p. 25, no. 88 for the reverse type). Similar hybrids are noted in RIC and an example in the British Museum from the Beachey Head hoard (BM 1966,0909.2) combines a similar obverse with a P M TR P V COS II P P reverse type.
