Roman unidentified copper alloy object: The object is sub-rectangular in plan, which is curved in profile. One narrow terminal is broken obliquely and not recently. The opposite terminal has a fragment of a transverse, integral cylinder at each corner. One fragment has a trace of an axis bar/pin with a bulbous head. Between the two cylindrical elements there is a wide rectangular slot. The outer, convex surface is decorated, it has a rectangular high-relief border. There is a square block which is undecorated at the terminal with the cylinders. This block has a rivet hole in each co…

Medieval (13th 14th century) strap mount or clasp bar: The copper alloy mount is rectangular and undecorated. On the reverse there is an integral, circular sectioned stud whose terminal is hooked over. The surface has a mottled mid green patina. It measures 17.73mm long, 5.18mm wide, 6.28mm thick and weighs 1.01g. The mount is possibly a strap fitting, but these appear to typically have separate rivets (Egan and Pritchard, 2002, Nos. 1132-1145). It is possibly a clasp bar such as those illustrated in Egan and Pritchard, (2002, Figure 76), but again these typically have a separate…

Post Medieval jetton: probably a rose and orb jetton, which are the most popular jettons of Hans Schultes I and Hans Krauwinckel II and probably date from 1490 and continues to 1585 (Mitchiner, 1988). The jetton has been folded, possibly folded around an object originally as the void is a sub-rectangle. The obverse is on the interior of the jetton and therefore not visible. Reverse: Illegible legend. Imperial orb surmounted by a cross patty, within a tressure with three main arches. Probable Early Medieval bucket mount fragment, made from thin copper-alloy sheet, and roughly rectangular. The fragment is slightly curved in profile and this may be intentional. The fragment is decorated with repoussé dots arranged in two lines with a zig-zag of dots in between. The dots are convex on the exterior and concave on the reverse. One edge of the object is parallel to one of the lines and may be original; all the other edges are broken. In the centre of the zig-zag, towards the edge, there is a incomplete circular perforation, probably for attachment to the wood of the bu…

Roman cast lead-alloy sealing. In plan the object is sub-circular, with a small spur protruding from the edge. The length from the tip of the spur to the opposite edge is 15.5mm and the width is 13.5mm. It is made from cast lead alloy with the decoration possibly stamped. The obverse has a bust facing right. The bust is 'cartoon-like' in style with a large straight nose, and a pointed oval shaped eye, the hair is swept upwards and back to the nape of the neck. The neck is very slender. The bust appears to be draped and cuirassed. The overall style is reminisent of a 4th century…
