Lead hinge. A cast rectangular section plate, expanded and slotted at one end to receive an inserted lead spindle engaging a perforated lug projecting from the end of a similar but narrower plate, which is broken close to the meeting of the two components. A hole is pierced in the larger plate near the hinge, suggesting attachment; an impressed circle of diameter 7.5mm my suggest a large  or decorative head for the fastening pin. Patinated. A fragment of a copper alloy unidentified object of uncertain date. The fragment is a waisted elongated oval in plan and sub-rectangular in section. The waist in the centre of the fragment produces the appearance of a pair of ovals joined by a narrowed mid-area. One of these ovals terminates with a pair of worn projections, possibly the remains of an integrally cast loop. The other terminates with a circular sectioned projection with a worn break. The surface of the fragment is very worn, therefore any potential decoration is obscured or lost. The fragment has a worn dark-green …

A complete lead-alloy gaming piece or weight of uncertain date. The object is sub-conical with a flat base and tapering sides to a rounded top. It appears undecorated. The object is 10mm tall, 16.5mm in diameter and weighs 12.8g. Lead objects such as this are common metal detector finds but are rare from excavated contexts. This means that the dating of lead objects of this general type is problematic, and their use is invariably uncertain. Similarly shaped objects are known from Viking contexts and are interpreted as weights or gaming pieces. The predominant Viking Age sy…
