A copper-alloy medal or medallion commemorating Admiral Vernon and his victories at Porto Bello in 1739 AD. The obverse depicts a half length figure of Admiral Vernon facing left, holding a baton in his left hand, and his right hand pointing to the left of the A in the inscription. The inscription would have read: ADMIRAL VERNON TOOK PORTO BELL. The reverse depicts a view of the port, with six ships arranged. An incomplete silver plated copper alloy buckle frame of Late Post Medieval to Early Modern dating (AD 1700 to AD 1900). The buckle frame has broken into three joining fragments. The frame has been drilled for a separate spindle, now missing. The buckle frame is rectangular with rounded corners. A complete dolorite whetstone, of uncertain dating but probably Neolithic to Modern (3,300 BC to AD 1900). Top and bottom of the whetstone are pointed oval shapes, whereas the sides are more boat shaped, with one end taller than the other. The upper surface of the whetstone is an elognated pointed oval shape, with a sloping surface. Polishing is present on the surface, along with multiple parallel striations. Copper alloy (brass) button bearing the number '83' above which is a crown. The button is made from three components; a dished cover bearing the raised inscription, a flat backing plate, now corroded but bearing an inscription in impressed letters part of which reads ...GLAN... In the centre of the backing plate is a wire loop. This button was issued to the 83rd, 'County of Dublin' Regiment of Foot. An incomplete enamelled copper alloy heraldic horse harness pendant, of Medieval dating (AD1200 to AD 1400). The remains of the harness hanger is still present, at the top of the pendant. It is rectangular in shape, with two semi circular lugs to either side of the top of the harness pendant. Above this, on the back of the hanger is a conical integral copper alloy spike, for attachment to a harness. The harness pendant is an elaborate quatrefoil shape. A lead alloy spindle whorl of Medieval to Post-Medieval date, circa (AD 1100-1600). In plan the spindle whorl is sub-circular and in profile is bi-convex. There is a central sub-circular perforation which is 8mm in diameter. Both faces have been decorated with the same raised cast design consisting of a repeating pattern of radiating ribs with pellets in between. Th edges of the object have been damaged. A Post-Medieval copper-alloy tap key. At one end the cylindrical stem tapers into an oval-shaped bow with two circular countersunk apertures with bevelled internal edges. At the other end of the stem is the bit, which is D -shaped in section. Along the long edge of the bit is a rib which would have formed part of the locking mechanism. There is damage to the bow and bit. It has an abraded surface with a mid-green patina across the object. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1800-1900.
