A Mesolithic tranchet axe or adze, rectangular in plan, lozenge-shaped in profile, triangular in section at the butt end and lenticular at the slightly wider blade end. Made on an elongated flint nodule which has been flaked from both faces to remove most of the cortex, except for a small patch at the butt end, to produce the outline shape of the axe. A fragmenet of a ceramic object, possibly a vessel of Roman to Medieval date. The object is irregular in plan and straight in profile. The outer face has been decorated with four diagonal grooves on one side and four almost vertical grooves on the other side resulting in an herringbone-like pattern. The internal face is undecorated. The fragment has been evenly fired and has a light sandy white fabric with no visible inclusions. It has been made from a very light-coloured clay. The object is sub-triangular in plan with a lozenge shaped cross-section. The flint has a rounded point and two seperate barbs. There is no central tang and it does not appear that one has broken away. The object has short parallel long angled retouch along each edge and is flaked on each surface. One long edge measures 5mm thick, while the opposite long edge is just 2mm thick. The arrowhead is on a light grey flint with no remaining cortex. Dimensions: 53mm in lenght, 25mm in width (at base), 3.5mm in width (at tip), 5.5mm thick, 5.4g.

A large flint handaxe of sub-triangular shape. It is similar to, although less well defined than axes of the Boute Coupé tradition. The flint is patchy brown and dark grey with some lighter cream coloured patches.
