A fragment of a medieval to post-medieval cast copper-alloy purse bar of Williams Class A1. The fragment is the terminal of one of the arms, broken off towards its junction with the central block, presumably before an animal head junction. It is sub-circular in cross-section and with an integral flange along a portion of the lower edge. One end of the bar appears to be broken, but not recently as there are traces of the patina on the break. At 10 mm from the terminal, the bar thins for a separate terminal rove, now absent. The sub-rectangular flange has two holes which would have been…

Below these is a pair of low ridged bands; there is punched and engraved feather-like decoration below. There is a logitudinal split in the object, more evident at the attachment end, testament to how it was constructed. The object has been squashed around its centre.

Description: Silver gilt 16th century dress-hook, complete apart from most of the integral loop. Fragments of the sides of this loop survive and project vertically from the top edge of the plate, the loop appears to have been rectangular in shape originally. The plate is moulded in the form of a circular Tudor rose and in its centre there is a fleur-de-lis motif, when this motif is viewed the right way up the missing loop would be at its base, which probably indicates the orientation this hook was worn. The hook is soldered onto the flat back face of the plate; it is com…

A cast silver-gilt bar-mount from a belt or strap; the mount has central and end lobes. The mount is convex, with plain bars and end lobes, the latter perforated for rivets, one of which survives. The larger central lobe is decorated with cross-hatched incised diagonal lines. This form of bar-mount tends to have been found in 14th-century contexts. A silver-gilt bar-mount from Churcham, Gloucestershire, was put through the Treasure process i…
