Both coins are British Iron Age gold staters of a type known as 'British LA' or 'Whaddon Chase' (BM 295 = VA 1476). Similar coins accounted for 60 of the 73 coins reported from the same site in 2006 (2006T640). These coins would have been produced between about 60 and 50 BC. Date and Metal Content The coins satisfy the terms of the Treasure Act with regard to age and metal content. They are certainly more than 300 years old and have precious metal contents in excess of the 10% threshold.
