An unusual medieval cast copper alloy comb pendant of Eastern Scandinavian or Baltic origin. The comb measures 47mm long, 35mm wide, and 3mm thick, and has a tooth gauge of approximately 4 teeth per cm. It has a deep green, mottled patina. The comb is decorated with Ringerike-style zoomorphic ornament, the primary theme being a pair of inturning zoomorphic heads, with the animals' necks represented using openwork casting. Gold Gallic contemporary copy of a Solidus of Anastasius (491-518), possibly of the Pseudo-Merovingian coinage, c. 500-580. Copied from a coin of Constantinople. Found with associated Early Medieval finds from a ploughed cemetery site (Treasure case no. 2007 T203).
Note: the BM has 7 imitations of solidi of Anastasius, but none are very similar to this piece.

Early Medieval, Anglo-Scandinavian copper alloy stirrup strap mount fragment, 27mm long, 12mm wide and 8mm thick. The object is in poor condition with a brown patina and weighs 6.50grams. The object represents the base of a mount and consists of a rounded flange protruding at right angles from the base. There are two circular fixing holes, 3mm in diameter, in the main rectangular surface. There is no sign of any decoration.

Early Medieval mount; Anglo-Saxon, cast copper alloy mount in the shape of a bird, possibly a cockerel. Flat mount with incised decoration on one face showing a bird, facing left, with hooked beak, small crest on the head, pointed wing extending up and backwards and thick curved tail. An incomplete cast silver strap-end of early-medieval date. The Thomas Class B, Type 1 (transverse grooved) strap-end measures 28.2mm by 7.5mm by 2.9mm and weighs 1.9g. Its width to length ratio is 1:2.6. It has a proximal split end with a trifid terminal and a central perforation. The interior side of the split end has broken off. A further perforation, which is filled with iron corrosion, is located close to the other end of the split. Description: An incomplete silver strap end, one half of the attachment edge is missing due to an old break. It is rectangular in shape and the attachment end is solid but thinner than the rest of the strap end, it is flush with the back face. This attachment end has two and a half surviving circular rivet holes and is likely to have had four originally. There is a silver rivet in situ within one of the complete rivet holes.

Description: An incomplete silver Anglo-Saxon hooked tag, a fragment of the upper edge of the plate is now missing due to an old break. The head is round in shape and has two small circular sewing holes near the centre of the upper edge.
The front face is decorated with an incised Greek cross with rounded terminals and there is also a pair of transverse grooves at the beginning of each arm. The cross appears to have also been inlaid with niello, although only tiny traces survive.
The hook is slender and turns backwards abruptly at its lower third, it tapers to a sharp point.

Cast copper-alloy late Saxon stirrup-strap mount, Williams Class A type 12. The mount is diamond-shaped with a rearward-facing flat base. The main body is openwork and decorated with a central diagonal cross giving four apertures. There is a projecting integral circular boss at each angle. The apex of the mount is circular and filled with iron corrosion. Iron corrosion is also seen on the flat base. The surface of the metal is covered with a reddish patina.

Anglo-Saxon small-long brooch. The brooch is cast copper alloy and has a square headplate decorated with a ring and dot motif in the centre. The motif has two rings to it. Surrounding the headplate are three integral semi-circular wings. Each wing is decorated with two transversly incised lines forming a narrow collar.
The bow is arched and faceted, and broken shortly after below. The reverse of the headplate has a single integral pierced lug for the pin. The pin is missing.

Anglo-Saxon cruciform brooch fragment, cast copper alloy. The brooch has a square headplate split into three smaller rectangular zones. The central rectangular zone is the largest and sits slightly proud of the flaking zones, being decorated with a perimeter of punched crescents. Two integral side knops remain. Each knop has a moulded collar divided into three bands, and a flat circular knopped terminal. The rest of the brooch is missing at the top of the bow. There is an incomplete double pin lug on the reverse of the headplate.

Anglo-Saxon cruciform brooch, cast copper alloy. The lowest part of the bow is visible, which is faceted and has three recessed collars below. The terminal is in the form of an animal's head. There are two large moulded eyes to either side, a long broad forehead and two circular nostrils forming the snout. The animal head is D-shaped in cross-section. The remains of a catchplate is situated on the reverse of the collared area.

Incomplete cast copper alloy pin. The pin has a solid biconical head with a moulded narrow collar below. The shaft is circular in cross-section and bent at approximately 45 degrees shortly after it leaves the head. The head is 8mm in diameter and the stem is 2mm in diameter. Early Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) Thomas Class A strap-end made from silver, with gold and niello decoration. The body is made from silver, one end divided for the insertion of a strap, which would have been secured by the two in situ silver rivets. Decoration is by engraving, possibly enhancing some cast features.

Anglo-Saxon small-long brooch fragment dating to the sixth century AD. The fragment comprises the head plate. The head plate is rectangular in shape with two semi-circular cut outs in each corner giving it a cruciform appearance. It is decorated with a marginal pattern of stamped semi-circles and dots. On the underside of the head plate is a semi-circular lug with circular perforation. Iron corrosion products surround the lug. The fragment measures 22mm in length and 26mm in width. It has a thickness of 9mm.

Anglo-Saxon cruciform brooch fragment, lower bow and part of the flat panel from a early Anglo-Saxon brooch. There is a longitudinal decorative band running down the centre of the bow and below the bow transverse grooves delimit the start of the flat panel. Surviving length is 17.94mm and width is 17.38mm. All edges worn and damaged due to old breaks. Both faces are black probably due to exposure to fire, perhaps indicating that this brooch was originally from a cremation cemetary.

A lead alloy probable brooch fragment which is probably from the mid Early Medieval period. The fragment is a sub rectangular flat plate with one end rounded, and the other end broken with the majority of the brooch missing. The fragment is divided into two panels by a transverse raised bar. There seems to be a plain border round each panel, and interlace patterns within.
