"In or near a small furnace in Site XII:
"it was at this point, about fourteen inches below the present field-surface, that the hoard of gold coins was discovered. The package showed no signs of having been subjected to heat, and the furnace, and possibly the whole building, must have been abandoned before the date of its deposit."
