A lead unidentified object. This object is a cast lead ring, oval in shape measuring 13mm in length and 7mm in width externally and 8mm in length and 5mm in width internally. One edge of this ring has a circular lead disc protuding from it, the plane of which is at 90 degrees to the hoop. This disc is rounded on its front face and flat on its back face it is incomplete and c15mm in diameter. It is decorated with a central heart shaped inset of a darker grey lead, which is surrounded with a white chalky material. No parallel could be found for this object but it is most likely to be Me…

Description: Fragment of gold sheet, probably of the Anglo-Saxon period. The bend is almost at right angles. To one side of the angle, one face is decorated; a triplet of straight grooved lines, the central one minimally wider, starts close to a finished straight edge and runs to a break. The lines are flanked on either side by a scatter of punched annulets (about 1mm in diameter), part-annulets and large dots. On the other side of the angle, the sheet is undecorated, although it has bends which may have formed a loose corrugation. It has a short length of original edge which mee…

Description: Unidentified object made from silver, partly gilded and inlaid with niello. It has a flat circular top and short straight or slightly convex sides forming a hollow cylinder; the underneath and inside are undecorated and ungilded. One side is now bent inwards, and a deep crack has resulted. The top is decorated with a reserved flat ungilded animal in profile, whose legs and tail dissolve into chip-carved interlace with plant elements. The animal is turned to the left, but the head is looking back over the shoulder to the right. The head has a sub-rectangular…

It has two long straight edges which appear complete though show signs of damage. One side has a break midway along its length at which point the sheet is folded over. The two shorter edges appear broken. The object is undecorated though faint horizontal linear striations are present to one side. These are regular in depth though are varying distances apart. A fragmentary silver unidentified object probably of Early Medieval date, about AD 410 - 1066. It is a rectangular strip of metal, broken at both ends, with parallel original edges. One face is decorated with a double row of irregular punched or stamped rounded dots along each original edge. Running along the centre is a guilloche pattern of repeated S shaped recesses, each one seemingly formed from a number of individual circular stamps. Together they form the impression of a rope-like two strand twist or interlace pattern. The reverse is plain. The sheet is bent at one end, befo…

Lozenge-shaped, openwork object with small circular loop at one corner. Central raised lozenge-shaped boss with vertical groove at centre of pendant; around this are four trefoil or lis-shaped perforations. This may have been suspended from the loop (making the object a pendant) or have been mounted on something using the single loop (making it a mount). The style of the object dates it approximately to the 17th or 18th centuries. See an almost identical parallel at NCL-F82F03, and a third (with integral fixing spikes on the reverse) at NCL-97E903. See also Read (2016, 43, no. 340).

Description: Fragment of an early Anglo-Saxon silver object, possibly a mount or brooch. The motif is incomplete, but at least one stylised eye and possibly part of a limb is visible.  The reverse is ungilded and undecorated, and appears warped. No visible form of attachment remains. Description: Gilded silver object with niello inlay and Salin's Style I decoration dating it to the early Anglo-Saxon period. It is a heavy, three-dimensional object cast in one piece, perhaps imitating a buckle frame and pin, or alternatively a sword-ring. The object is largely circular in shape, thick and tapering upwards to form a truncated cone which has a sunken centre devoid of decoration. This is crossed by a bar which drapes across the slopes of the cone, dipping down into the centre where it is crossed by a second shorter bar at right angles. The sides of the cone ar…

Silver object of post-medieval date. It is a cylindrical tube, with a closed undecorated base with a central scar as if a loop has been torn away. The base projects to form a rim about 2mm deep, which has an obliquely beaded edge (resembling cabling) which is now very worn. Above, the sides are of thin sheet, with the top cut into a zig-zag of eight V-shaped cut-outs and eight projecting points which are now mostly bent inwards. A crack runs from the base of one of the cut-outs to just above the base. The sides are decorated with a engraved zig-zag border just below the top edge, then …

Solid gold cylindrical fragment which is partly flattened on one side (unclear if intentional or due to damage). The surface has some abrasions and light scratching. It appears to have been cut at both ends; possibly a piece of hack gold dating from the Early Medieval period. Dimensions: Weight: 3.6g, Length: 13.8mm, Thickness: 4.8mm. Discussion: It is likely to be over 300 years old. This suggestion is made due to the colour and apparent quality of the gold, as well as the lack of machine made marks, and comparisons to similar artefacts like SWYOR-C74077, DENO-68B0E8

A silver fragment from an unidentifed object of probable late Medieval to Post Medieval date, about AD 1300 - 1700. The fragment is shaped like a fleur de lis. It has three trumpet shaped elements, each opening into three fluted petals. One element is vertical and the side components curve out from the central stem. Most fleur-de-lis have a transverse binding band across the base. It is missing in this example, but this may be owning to damage, as the base of the stem is a patinated break, as are the lower petals on each side fleur, suggesting the fleur element proj…

The item is a wooden terminal with two strips of lead covering it, which are held in place by iron rivets. The wood is sub-oval shape in cross-section, the terminal appears to have been cut, instead of broken or snapped. The cut surface is slightly irregular around the edge and pitted in the centre, possibly due to decay. The other terminal of the wood is slightly tapered in width, but not thickness. A rectangular strip of lead is folded vertically around the tapered terminal, and the ends of the lead are parallel with the cut terminal. This strip of lead is held in place by two ?iron …

Cast, gold fragment. The fragment is oblong, solid and was once part of a larger object. It is roughly D-shaped in cross section and tapering in height towards one end. At the higher end, the fragment appears to have been chopped. The shorter end shows some damage and it seems that part of the underside has been cut away here. The underside of the object is flat apart from a small dent and some minor ?cracks. The upper, curved, side is divided into two panels by a band running along the middle axis. It meets another band, that frames the lower edge of the object, at the narrower end. T…

Description: Fragment of partly gilded silver, with ornament in a chip-carved style, made by using a range of stamps or punches. It is flat and sub-rectangular, with one straight original long edge which is smooth and rounded in cross-section. The other edges are all rougher and more right-angled in cross-section; the remaining long edge is nearly straight, and the short edges are V-shaped and nearly parallel to each other. The item is a three lobed object with a flat, broken horizontal lower edge. The lobes are defined by grooves on the reverse and obverse faces. The central lobe is taller than the lobes either side. At the apex of the side lobes there is a vertical circular hole. One lobe is incomplete and this hole is revealed to travel halfway inside the lobe. The surface of the object is slightly rough, but has developed a patina.

It has two rivet holes at each end, one with a silver rivet remaining in-situ. This rivet on the reverse has a copper-alloy washer remaining, possibly indicating it was attached to soft material.
