A tranchet axe knapped from light grey flint, dating to the Mesolithic period (or earlier Neolithic period). The axe has a well defined cutting edge, which shows little sign of wear. Invasive removals cover the ventral surface of the flint, and there are long removals at the proximal end to sharpen the pick to a point (the tranchet technique used to remove sharpening flakes). The flint is unpatinated and has some post-depositional damage due to agricultural activity (chipped edges due to rolling in the ploughsoil). The dimensions are 125.94mm long, 41.82mm wide, 35.59mm thick and weigh…

Semi-translucent flint of good quality microlith. Oval-ended flake with three long parallel flakes removed from its dorsal side and with a bulb on the ventral. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows the curved end. The lack of patina may suggest this object was incorporated into a sealed context shortly after its deposition. Dark grey flint of mediocre quality, with browner mottled patches, core. Irregular fragment of flint, possibly originally from an ovoid nodule, with six or more long parallel flake removal scars on its dorsal side representing soft hammer working from one end at a clear striking platform, probably before this object was detached from the nodule. The relict of the core was perhaps reused as scraper, as one of its curved edges bears short possibly pressure flaked retouch, and the opposite edge is battered. This reuse was possibly by a left-handed person to judge from the position of ret…

Pale grey flint core. Long fragment with long, sometimes parallel and often slightly spiralling flake or bladelet removal scars on all four sides. Possible retouch appears at one end on the [possibly] dorsal side; a dished concavity adjacent may have provided a thumb rest. A thin cloudy patina extends over these struck surfaces, imparting a mauve appearance, and is interrupted by either retouch or renewed use wear at the rounded end, and at one point on one side. The latter features may alternatively represent fortuitous damage, but their position is compatible with reuse. Suggested d…

Mid grey flint, with heavy white patina overall. Microlith. A rod shaped triangular section point with possibly pressure flaked or soft hammer retouch along one long edge. The finder kindly suggests a Late Mesolithic date. The patination over all worked surfaces argues this object was exposed for a long period.
