It was issued in Rome in AD 248 to publicise the Secular Games which were part of the celebrations of the 1000th anniversary of the founding of Rome (753 BC) in AD 248.

Similar hybrids are noted in RIC and an example in the British Museum from the Beachey Head hoard (BM 1966,0909.2) combines a similar obverse with a P M TR P V COS II P P reverse type.
