19th century gambling token imitating the design of a George III, 1790 "spade" guinea. These were widely used in gambling in the 19th century. This example bears an altered version of the reverse legend which includes the initials of the manufacturer and the letters BIRM for Birmingham, where it was made.

The two circumferential curved removals appear to be the result of cutting the blanks, as sometimes seen with jettons, rather than losses through use.
