The point of the latter is soft and rounded. At the former the plate becomes narrower but much thicker essentially forming a plate that is perpendicular to the plane of the pin. This is broadly triangular shaped, the point being at the interface between the kite shaped plate and this section. It is pierced by a circular hole 1.9mm diameter. The kite shaped section of the object is decorated with four ring motifs running down …

Description: Silver asymmetric double-loop buckle frame, perhaps from a shoe or spur. One loop is rectangular and the other is D-shaped, with a pointed outside edge. The frame is D-shaped in cross-section, and the only decoration is an oblique groove at either outer corner of the rectangular loop; one of these grooves is now worn away at its outer end. The frame is thickened in the centre where it is drilled to take a separate bar, and the buckle is now bent up on either side of this hole, which is broken through to the reverse with the bar missing. The pin is also missi…

A silver buckle of late Early Medieval to Medieval date, about AD 800 - 1200. The decoration is perhaps of Carolingian style, or maybe Carolingian inspired Winchester style, or transitional from Urnes/Ringerike to more Medieval forms. The buckle has an expanded and angled outer edge and sides, which are chunky and deeply moulded. There is a narrow bar with a spiral knop at each end of the bar. The outer edge is decorated with a palmette or other foiliate design, rather like a fleur-de-lis, with three fronds projecting from a narrow waist, and four scroll ends exten…

Description:  A complete but warped Post Medieval silver gilt buckle or brooch dating to c. AD 1230-1400. The pin has become unattached to the frame but was found in the same hole. The frame would have originally been broadly rectangular in plan, albeit with side which were each slightly concave. However, it has been folded almost in half across a diagonal line running from one corner of the brooch to the middle of the opposite surface. There is a circular hole cut into one the inside corners of the frame, presumably which would have been to hold the pin although this is broken …

Description: Fragment of gilded silver buckle, probably of 11th- or 12th-century date. The bar survives complete, with some casting flaws producing cavities. It is oval in cross-section, 3mm thick and 4mm wide in the centre but 5mm wide at either end. Two stubs of the relief-decorated frame survive, both curving, implying that the frame was oval. They are also wider and a little flatter than the bar. The decoration seems to show animal heads biting the ends of the bar. What appears to be the upper jaw, on the exterior of the buckle frame, has a squared-off end decorated with a pa…
