Small cast copper-alloy buckle frame with integral triangular plate. The flat triangular plate is undecorated, and ends in a circular terminal. The other two corners, near the frame, each have an outcurved edge forming a slight lobe just beyond them. There are remains of an iron pin, now missing, in a pin hole in the centre of the short edge of the triangle. The frame is oval, and has a D-shaped cross-section which is flat on the reverse and which swells slightly towards the centre of the outside edge where there is more iron corrosion from the pin. It too is undecorated.

Complete buckle with plate and pin, all made from copper alloy and all with traces of gilding. The single-loop frame measures 15mm x 13mm and is 3mm thick. It has an offset narrowed bar. The outside edge is rounded on the front and flat on the reverse, and swells gently to the centre. The plate is made from a rectangular piece of copper alloy folded to form a shape 40mm in length and 13mm wide on the front and a much smaller underplate, 24mm by 9mm, on the reverse. A pin slot and frame recesses have been cut to form two hinge loops. Three copper alloy rivets attach the two halves of t…

Small cast copper-alloy single loop buckle frame, D shaped, with a thinner bar and thicker rounded outside edge, both sub-circular in cross-section. Such simple shapes are hard to date, but the proportions (width 15mm, length 16mm) seem closer to medieval than Anglo-Saxon examples.

Medieval buckle plate, rectangular, gilt copper alloy decorated with leaf-scolls in relief. The plate was secured by two rivets, one of which survives. The other end bears two projections between which the buckle pin would have fitted. A similar buckle (albeit with different decoration) from London was found in a context dated to AD1200-1230 (Egan and Pritchard, 1991, Fig. 72, No. 500). Length 20.4mm, Width 15.3mm, Thickness 1.2mm, Mass 2.17g

Medieval buckle fragment, copper alloy and consisting of a rectangular loop, originally integrally cast on the back edge of the buckle frame, the strap encirling the loop. The main part of the loop has a 5.0mm diameter section but is square sectioned where it lies against the back edge of the frame. In the centre of the loop is notch for the pin across which a 3.2mm diameter bar. The bar is flanked by recesses on on the buckle frame's back edge. Through the narrow part of the triangle is a hole containing as 1.8mm diameter rivet, now bent. From this point extends a narrow bar which terminates in an expanded plate which is truncated. Medieval buckle of the double looped 'spectacle' type. Two conjoined loops linked by a round sectioned bar either side of which is a small projection. The frames have a thin, plate like section (1.0mm thick x 6.2mm) which are set at an angle of 30 degrees. The outer faces are decorated with a line of punch marks around their inner edges and a central, triangular panel, also executed in stamp marks. Double looped buckles occur in both Medieval and Post Medieval context making dating difficult. The decoration on this buckle looks Medieval but its plate like section of this find suggests…
