The sherd is made of an unevenly shaped tile, which varies slightly in thickness. In profile it the tile is sub semi-circular. In plan the sherd is sub-triangular, with all the edges being broken.
The fabric is sandy and micaeous with occassional large angular red inclusions. The surface of the fabric is a pale buff colour, with a pale brown core and wide orange margins.
The underside of the tile has traces of mortar remaining.

Two fragments of roof tile found together. First piece measures 69.6mm long, by 61.9mm wide, by 22.5mm thick and weighs 132.23g. It has been broken away on all four sides.
The second fragment is 78.2mm long, by 53.5mm wide, by 20.5mm thick and weighs 126.23g. It is a fragment of the vertically standing tile edge.
Both pieces are shell-tempered and poorly fired. The first piece has deep red surface colour with dark grey core. The second piece is a lighter pinkish orange.

The tile is incomplete. The fabric of the tile is quite a fine grained ceramic which has an orange surface with a grey core. The lower surface appears to be the original surface - it is quite shiny and smooth in place.
The other surface is decorated an incised pattern, possibly depicting heraldry. The surface has a white slip which has then been covered with a yellow glaze. Where the decoration has been incised, the glaze is more thick, forming a green colour.
The tile appears to be too narrow in depth (12.1mm) for a floor tile, but for a wall tile you would expect to see a white…

The tile is only a fragment. One original edge remains. The fabric is highly fired, and is a brown/orange colour throughout. The base of the tile has a sandy surface is patches, otherwise the clay has been smoothed. The upper surface has fragments of two letters which are likely to be 'T' and 'C'. The upper surface is not flat.
