Twenty five sherds of early Anglo-Saxon pottery, including 22 body sherds and 1 base (now in 3 sherds). Sherds include fine-medium sandy pottery, granite-tempered, coarse quartz tempered, grog-tempered and shell-tempered. Some sherds have corrugation and incised chevron decoration, these are dated to the late 5th century by Myers and also at Mucking. The globular vessels represented are more common in the 6th century. The variety of fabrics and the number of vessels present is more typical of a settlement assemblage than a funerary group, all dating between the late 5th and 6th cen…

Grey ware pottery sherds found c. 40 years ago on the south edge of a gravel pit. 5 rim, 2 base, 18 body sherds. Forms include a plain bowl (Suffolk type series 6.19.2), the base of a carinated bowl (eg type 6.19.3) and an out-turned bowl rim, perhaps from a similar form. Also jar forms. The bowl forms suggest a 2nd century date and the jars are not diagnostically any later. Fabrics grey, fairly sandy, not very micaceous; although not conspicuously uniform they might, given the association with kiln debris, mostly derive from one source.

Body sherd from a large storage jar, made from Glazed Red Earthenware. It has a band of impressed crescent decoration, similar to that on Jennings 1981 no. 1258, but running the other way; the points of the crescents are to the left. Part of a groove above the band of crescents also survives. It weighs 115.82g.
Glazed Red Earthenware is the typical East Anglian pottery type of the 16th to 18th centuries, when similar storage jars would have been found in nearly every house in the region. This example probably dates to the 17th century.
