A silver denarius of Elagabalus (AD 218-2220, dating to AD 219 (Reece Period 10). Reverse type P M TR P II COS II P P depicting Sol standing left, raising right hand, holding whip in left. Mint of Rome. RIC IV, pt 2, p. 29, no. 17. The coin is complete apart from slight damage to the top edge. It is possible that the coin is plated, but the verdigris is probably from copper leaching from the base-silver alloy.
