An incomplete cast lead-alloy medieval ampulla. The surviving rounded base section of the ampulla is incomplete along the bottom and has only one integral triangular loop on the side. The top half of the ampulla is missing. One face of the ampulla is decorated with a crown with a circle below it containing the long arrow of the cult of Our Lady of Walsingham. A small plano-convex disc, thickest on one side, featureless and worn on its convex side but retaining part of an image on the flat side, which looks like a small seated figure with right hand raised. Andrew Brown kindly comments that the object should probably be regarded as a late Iron Age quarter stater, issue of Haselgrove Period 2 phase 4 or later, 80BC-20BC. Stone rubber or polisher. A fine-grained Sandstone chunk, possibly half of an originally cylindrical object, with smooth curved sides and flat top with one groove near its edge. The other two adjacent flat sides are both slightly ridged or grooved in the same direction, with about four ridges or grooves passing across that face which preserves these details best. Copper alloy possible finger ring. Cast D-section band, slightly narrowed at one point which, if indeed a finger ring, would be opposite the bezel. The latter, and the rest of the band, is plain. Abraded. The wearing of finger rings was a men’s custom for the Romans, and this band would have to be for a youth or gracile individual if indeed worn on the finger.
