Early Medieval copper alloy object of unknown use. The object is incomplete and irregular in shape but appears to have been originally rectangular. It is decorated in a local variation of the Jellinge style with intertwining tendrils and circular shapes. Remnants of a silver-coloured surface treatment are extant. Two pierced lugs protrude from one of its longer sides. They contain the remains of what was presumably a bar which linked the two lugs together. Stone axe-hammer head dating from the final phases of the Neolithic to the Early Bronze Age. The axe head has been damaged, most likely by a plough, there are scratch marks on the sides and at the butt end some chunks have been broken off. Overall the axe head is sub-triangular in plan, with the butt having rounded corners and the blade not being central. The shafthole is midway between the blade and butt but is not equi-distant from the sides. It is circular and smooth all the way through. The axe is made from a hard, grey, igenous stone. A complete (though broken into three parts 12 weeks after discovery, now glued back together again) large hollow-based flint arrowhead. All-over re-touch, off white/cream coloured flint, which appears to be the natural colour rather than patination. The form is relatively straight sided with slight splaying at barbs. The concavity of the hollow base is relatively slight. Lenght 85mm, width 37mm and thickness 9mm. An incomplete cast lead medieval ampulla. The lower part of the ampulla has a rounded base, which tapers to a midway point, then flares slightly outwards at the slightly open upper edge. On one side of the midway point is an integral triangular loop. The loop on the other side is missing. On one face is a Type I scallop-shell motif with bold radiating ribs, notched edges and well-defined shoulders (Spencer, 1990, 59). The other face has a worn design of a circle, possibly with a void bend inside. The length is 40.8mm, the width is 37.0mm, thickness is 10.2 and the weight is 53.0g.
