A complete copper alloy trade weight, one of a set that would have stacked. It is circular with a raised rim, and the weight would suggest that it is 1/2 ounce. Inside are the stamps of a laver or coffee pot, the inspection mark of the Worshipful Company of Founders, who controlled the lawful making of weights in London and for three miles around (Withers and Withers 2011, page 78). Late Medieval to early Post Medieval lead alloy shield shaped pan weight. Equates to 60 drams or 3.7 ounces (almost 4 ounces or quarter a pound) under the ‘binary’ averdepois system.
