Almost complete late Anglo-Saxon strap-end of Thomas Class E, type 1, with openwork relief decoration on both faces. The terminal end is missing, yet symmetrical. The attachment end is rectangular, split to hold the strap, and retains the rusty remains of an iron rivet at either corner. The split end is separated from the body of the strap-end by a transverse ridge on both faces. The upper openwork decoration six small holes of similar size, there are a further two below of a larger size, the very end, as mentioned, is missing, it is likely a further two small holes would have formed …

An incomplete Medieval copper-alloy composite strap end dating to circa AD 1200-1400. The strap end is small and worn. At one end is a pointed terminal. It terminates at the other end in an old break immediately after a median in situ, separately, made copper alloy rivet joining two plates together. One plate is decorated immediately after the rivet with incised triangular grooves running along the vertical axis. It is likely the piece would have been much longer, the design more elaborate, and a second rivet present at the now missing attachment end.  Similar examples are depict…

Medieval copper-alloy composite strap end with a forked spacer. It appears to be nearly complete. The front and back plates are of equal size and shape, with straight or nearly-straight parallel lateral edges, one more roughly abraded than the others, and a tapering (triangular) closed end which terminates in small knop. The attachment or open end is more irregular in shape and has certainly lost some fragments, but there are remnants of at least one apparently intentional V-shaped notch on each plate. The spacer runs the extends the full width and nearly the full length, from the knop…
