A fragment of a cast copper alloy Roman brooch of Colchester derivative Harlow double-lugged type dating to the first century AD. The arms are hemi-cylindrical and enclose the spring, which is held on a copper alloy spindle in a double lugged flange at the centre. The bow is narrow and strongly arched, sub rectangular in cross section and decorated with a groove along the spine. The rest of the bow, the foot and the catchplate are missing.

A fragment of medieval copper alloy annular brooch, probably dating to c. AD 1250-1450. The brooch was originally circular in plan, but now only part of it remains.The brooch frame is decorated with double rows of small punched annulets in between collets. The collets contain the remains of a white paste which would have been used as a fixative for decorative pieces of coloured glass.The pin is missing.

Description: The brooch has a half-cylindrical head with double-pierced lug in which the external cord of the spring and axis bar are held. The spring is complete coiling around the axis bar three times on the right before passing over the head, through the lug, coiling around the left hand side of the axis bar four times and extending into the now missing pin. The object is composed of semi-cylindrical wings with outer raised double collared ends with a rear-hook at the top of the head. The spring, pin and axis bar are partially retained within the back of the wings. The bowhead is hump-like in profile. The body tapers to an abraded break resulting in the loss of the foot and catchplate.

An incomplete copper-alloy brooch of late Iron Age to early Roman date, c. 100 BC – AD 100. Uncertain type.
The brooch comprises a rectangular plate with a narrowed elongated trapezoidal foot to one end and an integral coiled spring to the other. The circular sectioned spring extends from the centre of one edge of the plate. It extends backwards and curves up and round to form a coil. The coil continues upward and curves over the central spring to form a second coil to the other side. The coil then extends downward to form the tapering sectioned pin.

A fragment copper-alloy equal-armed brooch of Early Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) date. Only the terminal end survives. The terminal is flat, triangular in form and missing parts of its outer edges due to old breaks. There is no evidence of decoration on the front plate. On the back face is a single D-shaped pin lug with circular aperture. It is 22.15mm in length, 32.91mm wide and 11.36mm in thickness, weighing 8.12g.

A fragment from a cast copper alloy Roman Langton Down brooch dating to c. AD 25-60. Only part of the bow and catchplate survives.
The surviving section of the bow is rectangular in plan and flat in cross section. It narrows slightly from its transverse break to a softly rounded terminal. Running down its centre is a wide decorative groove. A catchplate projects from the reverse of the bow. This is D-shape albeit with an upper edge which becomes concave and narrows to meet the back of the brooch. The brooch is a medium to light green colour.
