A complete, copper cored, gold, Bronze Age, penannular ring, 1800-1000BC. The ring is is penannular with a small gap between the terminals, which are flat. The ring is circular in cross section. There is substantial copper alloy corrosion on the interior surface of the ring, suggesting that the ring has a copper alloy core, similar to other examples (SUSS-5EF5C1). These rings are often erroneously referred to as 'ring money' though there is no evidence to suggest that they were used as currency. They are predominantly believed to have been used for personal adornment, such as earri…

A complete Late Bronze Age gold-plated penannular ring with a near-circular cross section. Damage on one of the terminals shows that the ring has been plated but the nature of the core is unclear (although it is likely to be copper alloy on the ground of known comparanda). There is no sign of banding in differential shades of gold, this being a common form of decoration on similar rings. Dimensions: Diameter 13.9mm; thickness 4.2mm; weight 2.77g.

A Late Bronze Age gold-plated copper alloy penannular ring dating from 1300-800BC. The ring is oval in shape and cross-section with a narrow gap between the terminals which are flat ended. One of the terminals has a chip of metal missing at the edge. The surface comprises of a bright gold colour and is possibly silver rich but there does not appear to be definitive bands of lighter (silver-rich) gold. There does not appear to be any evidence of a copper core and the weight may indicate it is more likely the penannular ring is made of gold, rather than gold plated copper-alloy. But non…

Description: Gold or gold plated copper alloy, Penannular Ring dating from the Late Bronze Age (c.1150-750 BC). Circular in shape and cross-section with a narrow gap between the terminals which are flat ended. Surface comprising of a bright gold colour with bands of lighter (silver-rich) gold. The ring is likely to have a copper-alloy core as its weight does not suggest it is solid gold. There are also small scratches on the surface of the ring and some cracks on both the flat terminal ends which look to cover a darker metal this could be copper-alloy. Dimensions: Weight: 1.56g,…

Gold, Bronze age, penannular ring, 1150-750 BC. This is a copper alloy core that has been gold coated, such as NMS-183C7E. One of the terminals has been damaged and the copper alloy core exposed. The ring is circular in section with flat opposed terminals. The ring has a tiger striped colouration around the inside of the internal diameter. This is a patination found on other examples such as HAMP-C18814 and SUSS-EA6735.
