An incomplete stone object, a probable whetstone or hone stone of unknown date. The object is formed from a finely grained light brown stone with a few micaceous inclusions. It is rectangular, smooth, with rounded edges, as if manufactured, but has breaks at both ends, one at an angle to the whole block, the other a more or less straight break. It has clearly been used to sharpen different blades or other sharp objects. There is a deep, but narrow, longitudinal scar at one end of a long broad surface, suggesting repeated use to sharpen there, and a se…

An incomplete copper alloy anthropomorphic unidentified object of uncertain date and uncertain use, possibly a strap fitting, possibly dating from the Medieval to Post Medieval period c. AD 1100-1700. The find comprises a sub circular ring, decorated with a male head extending outwards from the top edge. The top of the head is corroded but the remains of two incised horizontal lines to the left suggest hair or headgear, above the well-defined, curved brow. Below the brow are two lentoid eyes and the nose which comes off the centre of the brow. The mou…

An incomplete copper alloy annular frame of uncertain purpose and date, probably Post Medieval to Modern in date. It is an incomplete ring, convex and faceted on its upper surface, concave and faceted on its underside where there are three equidistantly spaced, rectangular cross section lugs. There may have been a fourth, but there is an early ragged break in the ring at the point where this would have been. Two of the lugs are bent over at the tip, the third may have lost its outer tip. All edges are abraded, with small sections missing. In cross section, the …

An incomplete copper alloy unidentified object, possibly a bodkin, of unknown date, but possibly Post Medieval, dating to c AD 1600-1700. It is circular in section, damaged at one end, with parallel sides below which is a ridge with pronounced central arris and a groove above and below. Because there is early damage to the attachment end it is not possible to estimate original length or whether it may have been attached to another object.…

A fragment of copper alloy in two parts of uncertain date or purpose. It may be a ferrule and may be Bronze Age to Post Medieval in date. Fragment 1 is curved, sub-circular in cross section and has an almost solid core, although a separate, thin central core is in evidence, which can just be seen at each end of the find. This also appears to be of copper alloy. The find has a pale green patina and some corrosion products adhering to it. Fragment 2 is similar in shape, although it is a shorter fragment, has a solid core, but does not have the separate thin central core of…
