An incomplete flint scraper of possibly Neolithic date (3450-2100 BC). The object is sub oval  in plan and plano-convex in section. The flatter, ventral, surface shows evidence of the point of percussion and shows concentric ripples across its surface but may have been damaged some time after being worked as there is a significant scar across this face. The rounded distal (lower) end shows retouch on the dorsal side and margins. The lithic retains some cortex on the dorsal surface and is therefore a secondary flake. The flint is dark grey in colour, corte…

An incomplete Neolithic greenstone axehead, dating to c. 4000-2350 BC. It has broken at the butt  end where it is circular in section, becoming a pointed oval at the edged end. The axehead is a basic igneous rock which has been subjected to low grade metamorphism.   It is a dark greenish grey in colour with two iron stainings which are approximately 2cms x 1cm in size. The texture of the axehead is a mottled medium grain - grains can be seen by the naked eye.  It would have originally been ground and polished smooth, but as this has not, it may sugges…

A possible stone hand tool dating to the Neolithic, or earlier (c4000 - 2500BC). It is a smooth, possibly sarsen stone, reddish in colour, coarse-grained with crystal inclusions, drop shape, possibly naturally formed in that shape, as sarsen sub sphericals are not uncommon. Or it may have become this shape from tumbling in water. It could have been used as a hammer stone or for grinding corn, but there is no wear on the surface to suggest this. In places the layers making up the stone are apparent. A tapering oval in section. Dimensions: 129.3mm…

An incomplete probable Neolithic stone axehead dating to c 4000 - 2220BC. It is oval in section and flares outwards from the butt end to the cutting edge which is vertical with slightly rounded corners. The butt end is missing to an early break, perhaps about a quarter of its original length gone. The stone is a brownish/grey colour, quite smooth on one face, but less so on the other, apparently due to a natural flaw in the rock which has made that face slightly uneven. Some grittiness is apparent with very rare, very small quartz-like particles. The flaw may be veins of iron. …

A possible Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age flint knife dating to c 3300-1000 BC. It tapers towards a blunt terminus at the proximal end. The bulb of percussion and ripples are evident on the ventral surface. A flake scar ridge appears on the dorsal surface and there is evidence of retouch on all edges. The item has broken away from a larger flake at an early date. It was reported by the finder as found one to two feet below the surface of a garden so may have been in original context. A Neolithic polished flint axehead dating c. 4000 - 2400 BC. The axehead is sub-rectangular in plan with sides tapering from the cutting edge to a sub-trapezoidal butt. When viewed in profile, one edge of the axehead has a bowed line. The axehead has a pointed-oval cross section. The axehead has been polished, with one side of the cutting edge being more worn than the other and with one face exhibiting distinct facets; this suggests the axehead has been resharpened and potentially more substantially reworked, as might also be suggested by it's small size. There are some large, hinged …
