A snapped flint piece of tertiary debitage / blade of later Mesolithic date (4000 -3000BC). The blade is rectangular in plan and has a crested cross section. The striking platform and bulb of percussion are present on the ventral face and the blade has been snapped near the mid-point; the break is old and patinated. The dorsal face has a series of parallel distinct flakes scars present and the two long edges show some evidence of reworking - specifically a crescent shaped notch at the mid-point of the blade with distinct short parallel crossed abrupt retouch. The flint is a mid-grey c…

A tertiary waste flake reworked to form a knife of probable later Neolithic date (4000-2500BC). The flake is triangular in shape and lentoid in cross section; it has been taken fro the tertiary phase of working and most probably represents a waste flake. This has subsequently been reworked / utilised as a multi functionary tool; most probably a knife or a scraper with one end which could be used as a fabricator / borer / awl. The tip of this point has been broken. The thickest long side has had a series of short, sub-parallel abrupt retouch applied - whilst the opposite end has more …

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A thumbnail scraper of later Neolithic or Early Bronze Age date (2300 -1800BC). The scraper is formed on a course yellow grey coloured poor quality, secondary flake of flint. The scraper is poorly preserved and has been shattered into two pieces probably by movement in the soil or possibly bracken flailing / strimming. The dorsal face has several removals / flake facets. These are most dense around the edge where a series of neat regular well applied secondary retouch can be seen. This has been well applied and forms a slightly serrated cutting / scraping edge that extends around thre…

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete knapped lithic implement most probably a flint knife or scraper of Neolithic date. The knife is formed on a core which has been bi-facially worked to create a relatively thick oval shaped tool. The working present isn't especially neat or well executed the most reworking is evident on the upper (dorsal ) face. Here the edges of the core have been thinned and a series of short, sub-parallel, semi-abrupt retouch has been applied to form a arc shaped cutting and scraping edge. Further on the ventral face less well organised retouch is present in the same area. The other edg…

A fine, bifacially worked barbed and tanged arrowhead in perfect condition. Found with the tip sticking out of a peat layer eroded by the Offa's Dyke Path. Light grey flint, with slight trace of white cortex on one face at the base of the central tang. Fresh, crisp condition without patination/weathering suggests burial until recent exposure. Findspot on ridge could imply possible association with unrecognised feature/context such as a cairn.
