An abraded sherd of Roman samian pottery, probably a 2nd century AD Gaulish Dragendorff type 37 bowl.
The main feature of this body sherd is the moulded decoration around the outside. The scene depicts a bull butting left; the forelegs of a second quadruped can be seen immediately above and the hind legs of a third animal (or possibly human arms?) lie to the left of the bull. In addition to the zoomorphic decoration, there is moulded grass along the bottom of the panel and, to the right of the bull, vine-like scroll. A ropework border marks the bottom of the panel and below this is …

Small fragment of Roman Samian ware. It is a body sherd measuring 19mm by 18mm. It has broken on all sides and also split, the slip is only present on one face.
Some Samian ware was produced in Britain in Colchester c.160AD but in the rest of the Roman empire it was produced from the 1st century BC up to the 3rd century AD. There is no way to know whether this pottery was imported or made in Britain.

Roman grey ware; 9 jar rims, 4 bases and 44 body sherds. Also 2 body sherds of Roman storage vessels and a fragment of a boz flue tile with combing on one face.
There are also 2 body sherds which are medieval coarseware and it is possible that some of the smaller abraded sherds of above Roman are medieval rather than Roman, but they are too worn to be certain.

A large piece of Roman box flue tile, with the side face scored for practical purpose with a mixture of horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines. The large inclusion of a pebble indicates the nature of the coarseware used. Smoothed on visible side, with raised edge at bottom end. There is rounding of the edges caused by wear while buried, as box tiles were designed to have clean edges to fit together better. Other damage includes severe scratches.
