A fragment of a cast copper alloy trumpet brooch, comprising the incomplete head and part of the bow, of early Roman date (c. AD 75-175). The lower bow, spring and pin are missing. The brooch's head is sub-circular in plan. The bow is curving with a debased acanthus moulding at the mid-point. The rest of the bow has broken off beside the acanthus moulding.
Dimensions: length 30.37mm, width of head 8.7mm, width of acanthus moulding 9.08mm, thickness 11.91mm. Weight 7.63g.

An incomplete cast copper alloy Colchester Trumpet brooch, dating to the Roman period, between AD 43 – 200 (length: 41.5mm; width at head: 15mm; thickness/ depth: 21mm; weight: 16.5g).
At the top of the D-sectioned brooch, the sub oval head is mostly complete with Celtic-style motif moulded decoration visible, comprising of worn curved ridges either side of a slightly raised central ridge down the length of the head.
