Silver spoon fragment. The surviving part consists of the spoon's offset with an ovate-perforation, a short section of the handle on top and a small part of the bowl. The offset originally belonged to a long handled 'cochlearia', a standard late Roman spoon type with pear-shaped bowl. It is possible this fragment should be considered as a piece of 'Hacksilber', ie. part of a deliberately cut item of silver tableware. It dates to the 4th century AD.

A fragment of a silver Roman spoon, with only a small section of the bowl and stem remaining. The bowl probably would have been either oval or pear-shaped. The stem has an oval section and a surving length of c. 6mm and a thickness of 1.62mm. The stem and bowl join to form a rats tail which extends across the remaining length of the bowl. This object is similar to a spoon from cornwall CORN-C3F239 (https://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/814858) and is also similar to Frere, S. 1972. Verulamium Excavations. Page 124, no. 74.
