ARCHAEOLOGICAL TREASURE CASE : 2014 T341 Scallop shouldered finger-ring; bezel and shoulder fragment. Silver. Octagonal box bezel with part of scalloped shoulder on each side; oval moulded blue/green glass bezel standing figure facing front. Bezel dimensions 11 x 9 mm, intaglio 8 x 6mm. It belongs to the commonest sub-group where the setting is an octagonal box, this is not a very well-dated form within the third to fourth centuries but the intaglio is made of moulded glass and this suggests a strong third century floruit going into the fourth century. The bezel of the ring is an octagonal box setting with tall sides and slight folds at the rim to hold the gem in place. The hoop of the ring projects to either side of the bezel to form wide shoulders with linear moulded decoration.
