Circumstances of Discovery
The site has already produced several groups of Iron Age coins (see the North Dalton Iron Age hoard 2006 T494; 2007 T600 and the 'Driffield' hoard 2002 T92, 2003 T401, 2004 T468, 2006 T26, 2007 T48, 2007 T597) as well as a small Roman hoard (see North Dalton Roman hoard 2006 T148).

Treasure Case No : 2009 T286 This hoard comprises twenty-one silver siliquae and one bronze nummus. A late Roman course grey-ware rim sherd was found in the vicinity, although we cannot be certain it is associated with the hoard. The coins were found over an area 5 metres by 5 metres. A number were on the surface, the rest were up to 8 inches deep. Summary The coins range from 355 to 402, starting with Constantius II (no. 1) and ending with Arcadius and Honorius (no. 17-20). A scattered hoard of 24 late Roman silver coins of the type known as silique, dating to the period AD 355 - 375. The coins were issued by the emperors Constantius II (5), Julian (9), Valentinian I (7) and Valens (3). The issuing mints are Arles (10), Lyon (6), Rome (2), Trier (3) and Antioch (1). Two (2) were issued from uncertain (i.e. illegible) mints.
A number of the coins were found in a fragmentary condition and were subsequently glued together by one of the finders.

A group of seven (7) Roman silver coins of a denomination known as a siliqua (pl. siliquae) dating to the period AD 360 - 402, with the latest coins dated to the period AD 395-402. Most of the coins are clipped.
The coins were found within the fold of a thin sheet of silver plate. The plate is sub-rectangular with irregular cut edges and has been folded in half twice. The coins
The coins submitted for consideration consist of 40 silver and 43 base metal coins. Some of the silver coins were fragmentary and in two instances, separately bagged halves were found to join, giving a total of 38 silver coins (a total of 81 coins).
The copper alloy coins are mainly of the denomination known as the sestertius, possibly with a few fractions (dupondius or as). Many of the sestertii are stuck together, obscuring the inner faces of the coin and most of the remainder are worn or corroded with some loss of surfaces. The silver coins are…
