Silver Roman trumpet brooch fragment Date: 1st - 2nd Century A fragment of a silver trumpet brooch, dating from 75-175 AD. All that survives is the central section of the bow which features the acanthus moulding. The head and upper bow have broken off, therefore exposing the hollow section of the upper bow. Around this area is a wide collar that goes right the way around the brooch. It also has a thinner collar above and below it. Very small trumpet, undecorated, simple neck leading to stylised acanthus above mid bow. Acanthus bordered by double relief ridge. Distil portion of bow very narrow, straight, undecorated. Simple foot with relief ridge to top and bottom, middle section beaded. Catchplate extant, slightly damaged. Spring and pin extinct. Some abrasion to surface-hydraulic action. Minimal oxidisation.

An incomplete probable silver-gilt Thealby brooch of Roman date. The head of the brooch is comprised of rectangular wings the reverse of which act as a double lug hinge mechanism for the pin. The pin no longer remains and patches of copper corrosion mark the remains of the axis bar within the lugs. An integral circular attachment loop projects from a rectangular bar set centrally on the upper edge of the head. The small portion of the upper bow which remains is circular in section with a double circumferential collar. TREASURE CASE : 2016 T587. A fragment of a silver brooch of Roman date. All that remains is a semi-circular loop which would have projected from the head of the brooch proper. The loop has a circular section and tapers to either end. It is decorated with a faint incised curvilinear design. A rectangular bar encloses the loop at its narrowest point and is decorated with a median circumferential band of transverse grooves, resulting in a twisted-rope effect. TREASURE CASE 2012 T44. An incomplete silver Trumpet brooch of Roman date. The lower bow, foot and part of the catchplate are all that survive due to an old worn break. The surviving portion of the bow is triangular in plan and is undecorated. The bow terminates in a thick circular foot decorated with a circumferential rope-work design. The ears, hind quarters, one front leg and the pin and spring mechanism are missing to old worn breaks.
