A silver figurine in the form of a bird dating possibly to the Roman period (c. AD 43-410). The figurine depicts a duck on water. It has a rectangular body which is triangular in section. The head of the bird is pointed with very little detail except a line to separate it from the body and two indentations either side of the beak which represents eyes, however these appear quite worn now. This Roman base silver denarius has been abraded flat on its reverse leaving just the obverse (front) displaying a beardless effigy of Caracalla as Augustus (thus dating to the joint reign of Severus and Caracalla, AD 198-209). It has been fitted within a silver mount decorated with eight evenly-spaced circumferential ribs. There does not seem to be any evidence as to whether it formed a brooch, pendant or ring bezel.
