Roman silver finger ring of semi-circular section and oval profile which swells to a wide flattened bezel, set with an ovoid orange-red carnelian intaglio flush with the bezel; this is engraved with a bird standing left holding a morsel of food in its beak. Scientific examination shows that the ring appears to be hollow but may originally have had a copper core plated thickly with silver which explains its mostly dull grey appearance.

Silver finger ring with carnelian intaglio. Guiraud Type 2c/d dating from the 1st century to the 1st half of the 3rd century AD. The hoop is oval and flares gently to an expanded bezel set with an oval intaglio. The intaglio is best viewed with its long axis running side to side. It has some slight damage on the right-hand side which may obscure some of the design, but is engraved with an eagle standing left, with an olive branch on the left.
