Description of find Silver finger ring, penannular, sub-rectangular section, with snake head terminals. The snakes' heads have a beaded edge, with engraved 'V's decreasing in size from the back of the head. The surface is corroded. John's type Bii (1996, 45, fig. 3.3). Roman, c. 1st c AD. Description: Two late Roman silver siliquae, one of Jovian (AD363-4, mint of Constantinople, Roman Imperial Coinage vol. VIII, 330, weight 1.21g) and one of Magnus Maximius (AD383-8, mint of Trier, Roman Imperial Coinage vol. IX, 84b, weight 1.53g). Both are in good condition with little trace of wear and were likely lost fairly soon after issue. Silver propeller-shaped belt stiffener, sub-circular centre flanked by four small rounded lateral lobes with central blind holes, between flaring trapezoidal terminals. A pronounced median rib runs the full length. Miniature silver sword. The blade is straight sided for most of its length before curving inwards to the point. The edges on both faces are bevelled. The rectangular hilt guard, handle and rectangular pommel are flat sectioned. There are two circular piercings, one through the hilt guard and one through the top of blade, probably for rivets rather than suspension. The sword is now slightly bent at the top of the blade. Coin Hoard. The group comprises five silver denarii. The earliest three, showing a reasonable amount of wear, are of the Flavian dynasty whilst the other two are in crisper condition and show little sign of circulation. It seems likely that the five coins went into the ground together, either lost as part of a purse, or concealed as a hoard.
