Circumstance of Discovery On 9th September 2008 Louise Snow of Archaeological Services, deposited at the Oriental Museum, University of Durham, a site archive of 41 coins which had been recovered by archaeologists during the course of excavations conducted at Bramham, West Yorkshire (site code BTW 07). A Roman silver denarius coin of Marcus Aurelius as Caesar under Antoninus Pius (139 - 161). A section of the flan has broken off between 1 o'clock and 5 o'clock on the obverse. The silver has tarnished and acquired a dark purplish patina. The coin is 18.5mm long, 15.7mm wide and 2.5mm thick. It weighs 2.23gm.

A Roman silver finger ring, complete, probably a Henig type II dating from the 1st to 3rd century. It has an oval hoop which expands and swells to a bezel set with an oval, orangey-red intaglio (possibly carnelian?). The intaglio depicts a full-length seated female figure, (possibly Fortuna), facing left holding something outstretched. It is similar to two intaglios illustrated in Henig 1974, (pl. XI, 326-7) though in this case the stone is heavily worn and certain details, for example the diphros on which she is seated and aspects of the cornucopia, are not visible. External diame…

This commemorates the initial victory over the Jewish rebels in Judaea. Compare Sear Volume 1, number 2296 on page 436. The coin is 18.5mm diameter, 2.3mm thick and 2.3g.
