An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman stud. The solid bell-shaped stud has a circular concave head with a cone-shaped projection in the centre. Traces of an iron remains on the end of flat terminal. The length is 24.8mm, the diameter of the head is 23.2mm and the weight is 29.34g. Similar examples can be found in Allason-Jones & Miket, 1984, P216 Nos. 3.734-6.

An incomplete and slightly worn cast copper alloy Roman Polden Hill brooch. The long semi-tubular deep wings are concave behind and house a spring mechanism. The copper alloy axis bar is held by a rounded pierced lug at the end of each wings and the worn spring has fourteen turns and possibly had a missing rearward claw. The wings are decorated with a knurled rib and the head has a crest with a moulded appendage on either side. Both the wings and head are covered with a thin layer of iron corrosion. Probably an incomplete cast copper alloy Roman bow and fantail brooch. Behind the rectangular head is a semi cylindrical moulding with central slot for the missing hinged pin mechanism. Iron corrosion on the head and wings suggests that the pin mechanism may have been iron. On top of the head is an incomplete integral chain loop. The short rectangular bow steps down to a worn and incomplete triangular leg at a midway point. The surviving length is 27.0mm, the width is 15.3mm and the weight is 2.82g.

The tip of the head has an asymmetrically set notch, the sides of which are folded back to secure the pin hinge, one side of which is missing. A Roman rim sherd, from a triangular rimmed dish with external burnished lattice decoration. It is definitely a product of the Roxby kiln industry as it has small fragments of brown ironstone in its fabric visible under magnification. The form can be directly paralleled to an example published by Rigby and Stead from the kiln site (1976, Fig 67. 53, Roxby Form P). It is a local copy of a black burnished ware form commonly produced in the south of England and should be dated to AD150-230.

Copper alloy Brooch. Dolphin Brooch, cast bow with abraded ridges on its crest, surmounting enclosed tubular wings with apparently open ends. A bow of rounded section tapers towards the stub of a catch-plate. It is not clear whether the wings conceal a fine spring, or whether a hinged pin protruded from a slot in the underside of the wings. The bow is bent sharply above catch-plate and the brooch abraded overall. Suggested date: Early Roman, 40-80. A Roman Amphora handle sherd. The handle is round in section with a slight ridge on the upper surface near the surviving upper junction with the neck. The lower joint to the body does not survive (dimensions L 140mm; W 90mm; T 48mm). The handle is from a large globular olive oil amphora type known as a Dressel 20 (DR 20) produced in the southern Spain/Portugal area at sites clustered around the Guadalquivir river valley. Although the mount is plain, it may be a debased representation of the bull’s head type. At the top is a slightly curved integral sub-oval attachment loop with a groove at the base. At either side of the loop, the top of the mount is faceted. The length is 76.6mm, the maximum width is 45.6mm, the thickness is 9.9mm and the weight is 48.76g.

An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman trumpet type brooch. Behind the hollow oval head is a perforated lug which would have secured the pin (now missing). The head is plain and has a rearward hook on the top which would have secured the spring pin is place. The arched bow expands midway to a devolved moulded acanthus button with two knurled rubs above and below. The brooch is broken just below the button and the foot is missing. Only a fragment of the catchplate survives. The surviving length of the brooch is 37.6mm, the width is 12.3mm and the weight is 6.98g.

Probably a contemporary copy of a copper alloy dupondius of Antonia (struck under Claudius 41-54)'Rome'. The reverse has Claudius stg left in toga, holding simpulum. Robert Kenyon, following on from the work by the French scholars P-A. Besombes and M. Bompaire (in Trésors Monétaires XXI, 2005), is working through the British examples of Claudian coinage recorded through the PAS assigning many so-called Claudian contemporary copies to Roman auxiliary mints which operated at Lyons (Gaul) and in Spain. This example is a contemporary copy of those minted at the Lyon II, à la Petite Tête.

An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman pin. The small round globular head has three sets of circumferential groves below the head. The upper two consists of two grooves and the third consists of three. The circular sectioned integral shank is incomplete. The surviving length of the pin is 38.3mm, the diameter of the head is 3.8mm, the diameter of the shank is 2.3mm and the weight is 1.77g.

A complete cast copper alloy Roman harness mount or strap slider. The slightly convex mount has a flat rectangular panel at the top with two flat lugs on each side, each with a circular perforation inside. At the top of the mount is a rounded lug which is convex at the front and flat behind. The lower half of the mount is drop-shaped and convex at the front and hollow behind. The pointed terminal has two knurled ribbed collars. At the back of the mount is an integral rectangular attachment loop. The length is 50.1mm, the width is 20.7mm, the thickness is 9.4mm and the weight is 7.85g.

A Roman flagon rim sherd. The white ware fabric has sparse small angular dark inclusions. The internal diameter at the top of the rim is 27.7mm and the external diameter of the flange is 48.4mm. The surviving fragment of the handle has a groove down the centre and a width of 23.2mm. The weight of the sherd is 36.4mm.

A Roman pedestalled base from a fine ware beaker. The sandy feel cream coloured fabric has an orange colour coat surviving on both the inside and outside of the base. The fabric has red clay inclusions of varying sizes and slightly more frequent voids. The diameter of the base is 39mm and the weight is 40.55g.
