Soft fine orange fabric, very eroded/abraded, slightly concave. Two small patches of brownish slip survive marking the edge of some decoration not discernible. There is a roughly circular shallow depression which maybe part of the decoration. Possibly a rim sherd as there appears to be a deliberate rounding of the sherd edge beyond the depression (though the orientation then seems at odds with the decoration). Roman Samian ware.

This is a small sherd of Roman pottery from the 1st or 2nd century AD. This small fragment of fine grained pot/vessel is most likely to be of Caerleon ware and by rimchart measurement, this element of the pot, would have a diameter of around 12cm. This Sherd consists of a micaceous fabric with some dark filler. The fabric appears to have no remaining slip and has the typical orange/red appearance.

Plain Samian ware pottery base sherd of a Dr.18 type straight-sided bowl, Flavian period in date, c.AD 68-96. Some of slip remains on both the internal and external surfaces and there is a moulded ridge running along one edge of the interior, marking the edge of the base, before the sherd starts to rise up towards the wall of the bowl. De la Bedoyere (1988) illustrates a drawing of a complete bowl on page 54, Fig.44, No.5, which is dated from the mid to late 1st century AD.
