One piece of a two-piece Romano-British strap-end of unusual, short form. Single rivet near straight attachment edge which carries four V-sectioned notches on the front face. The sides taper strongly before expanding into openwork lobes. Beyond these the object ends in two small and asymmetrically placed projections. The triangular shape and the lobes are reminiscent of a strap-end from Winchester, dated c.350 - 37/90 (Clarke 1979, 281-2, fig. 36 no. 128). 18 x 14mm. Thickness 1mm. Rivet projects 1.5mm from reverse.

A virtually complete Roman cast copper-alloy umbonate disc brooch dating to the late 1st/2nd century AD. The brooch is domed and broadly circular, with protrusions at the cardinal points. The largest of these knops conceals the double semicircular lug in which the pin is still retained by its axis bar. The pin is slightly corroded and has lost its tip. The whorl is 29.75mm in diameter at its centre, 12.05mm thick, and the circular perforation for attaching to the spindle is 9.5mm in diameter, tapering slightly to 8.2mm. Romano-British/Early Saxon rectangular strap fitting, belt stiffener with remains of two iron rivets, both ends damaged. Decoration consists of a single transverse groove and a pair of the same above and/or below both rivets, chamfered sides in the central part, a rounded notch in the sides next to the rivets, and a row of tiny notches along one end and perhaps along the other. 25 x 9mm. Thickness 1mm. Late Roman but found in continental Migration Period graves (e.g. Böhme 1974, Taf. 33.12 and Taf. 84.22) and in a 5th-cent. grave at Fairford, Gloucestershire (Macgregor and Bolick 1993…
