The stem of the pin is circular in cross section; it projects straight down below the head, where it has been bent in a U-shape and bends upwards to extend above the head, tapering to the end where it terminates in a break. An incomplete copper alloy Aucissa brooch dated to the Roman period, c. AD 43-80. Mackreth 2011, Aucissa Type 2.b, Plate 90, no.8687. The head of the brooch is formed from a flat, rectangular panel which splits into two at the back and rolls up and round to form the integral hinge which would have held the pin mechanism. The axis bar, pin and pin mechanism are all lost.
