A copper alloy radiate of Carausius (AD 286-93), probably LAETITIA AVG (as opposed to LAETIT AVG), probably C Mint. The obverse legend is VIRTVS CARAVSI AVG (cf. RIC V, pt 2, cf. 254), or VIRTVS CARAVSI, the spacing suggesting that the latter is more likely. Neither legend is recorded in RIC with this actual reverse, so this is likely to be a new variety. (Coin has been included in Sam Moorhead's corpus for RIC) It is struck off centre on a thin and misshapen flan that is considerably larger than the dies used, being 27.5mm long, 23.5mm wide and 1.4mm thick. It weighs 3.47gm.
