Two ceramic tesserae dating to the Roman period.
(1) Ceramic tessera, sub-rectangular in plan and cuboid in shape, with one rounded outer surface. It is likely that this tessera was manufactured from the flange of a tegula tile. Grog-tempered. Measurements: 31.3 mm long, 29.2 mm wide, 20.9 mm thick and weighs 29.6 grams.
(2) Ceramic tessera, sub-rectangular in plan and cuboid in shape. Grog-temper and micaceous inclusions. Measurements: 24.1 mm long, 22.1 mm wide, 17.8 mm thick and weighs 15.8 grams.

A complete Roman tessera. The tessera is square and has a black surface colour. It was registered on a metal detector and therefore is likely to have a high manganese content. The tessera measures 15.1mm square with a thickness of 10.0mm. It weighs 5.5 grams.
