A tubular case is plain behind but heavily moulded on the front with three billeted bands standing proud on either wing [termed bead and reel by Mackreth] retaining an axis bar for a hinged pin [all but stub lost]. A comma shaped casting tapered to either end with two rows of triangular enamel-filled cells of a dull red and a [now] pale green tint, alternating tints being accompanied by alternating orientation of the triangles. Suggested date: Early Roman, 100-150 – which is based as much on the assumption of a 2nd-century date for polychrome enamel as on the detail of decoration, which is not precisely paralleled by Mackreth (2011).
