Copper alloy silver-plated Hod Hill brooch. The front of the bow has a raised central section running its length, which is decorated with two parallel beaded lines running lengthwise down either side. A stamped motif consisting of two opposing groups of three dots, with a line of smaller dots connecting them, is repeated down the centre of the bow three times. The foot terminates in a semi-circular knob. The catchplate on the back of the foot is perforated with a single circular hole. Hod Hill brooches date to the 1st century AD. A small incomplete cast early Roman copper-alloy brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill type (Mackreth Group 6, Eastern Group). Rearward hook pin mechanism, dating to c.AD 43-100.
Description: The brooch has open semi-circular cross sectioned wings which are mostly missing the spring and pin. What remains of the spring and pin are a few curls and a corroded nub of pin, all iron.
