A cut Roman silver denarius, probably issued for the emperor Severus Alexander (AD222-235), Rome mint, AD222-228, Reece Period 11 (AD222-238). Reverse: VIC[TORIA AV]G, Victory advancing left holding wreath and branch. RIC IVb Severus Alexander 180.
Dimensions: Weight: 0.99g. Diameter: 13.60mm.
This coin appears to have been intentionally cut, resulting in about one quarter remaining - probably the result of a contemporary ritualistic fashion. Other examples of cut coins are: PUBLIC-596770 (London, Thames) and SF-4C274C (Suffolk).
