A copper alloy Roman as, probably of Maximis, dating to AD 235-8 (Reece Period 11), PIETAS AVG, Priestly implements. Mint of Rome. RIC IV, pt 2, pp. 155-6, cf. nos. 7b and 12b. The portrait does not have the distinct chin of Maximus, but no asses appear to have been struck of this type for Gordian III as Caesar. It has suffered some damage, parts of the edge of the flan having been chipped away. It is 29.5mm in diameter and 3mm thick. It weighs 9.2gm.
