SALVS PVBLICA reverse type depicting Salus, draped, seated left on throne, feeding out of patera in right hand snake coiled round altar and resting left arm on side of throne. cf. RIC IV.2, p. 84, no. 178d for the probable reverse type. The coin is 17.4mm diameter, 2.4mm thick and 3.48g in weight. A Roman denarius, probably a base silver contemporary copy, of the regent Julia Mamaea, mother of the child emperor Severus Alexander (AD 221-35) (Reece Period 11), last of the Severan dynasty. Julia would have a very strong influence over her son's reign up until his murder by his own troops on campaign in the March of AD 235. Prototype Mint of Rome. RIC IV, pt 2, p. 98, cf. no. 343.
