A Roman denarius, probably a base silver contemporary copy, of the regent Julia Mamaea, mother of the child emperor Severus Alexander (AD 221-35) (Reece Period 11), last of the Severan dynasty. Julia would have a very strong influence over her son's reign up until his murder by his own troops on campaign in the March of AD 235. Prototype Mint of Rome. RIC IV, pt 2, p. 98, cf. no. 343. The coin is broken and exhibits pitting across both surfaces.
