PIETAS AVG reverse depicting a collection of priestly implements used for sacrifice (lituus, knife, patera, jug, simpulum and sprinkler). Mint of Rome. RIC IV, pt 2, pp.. 155-6, cf. nos. 7b and 12b. Without an obverse legend and image, it is not possible to give this coin a precise reference.

Cast copy (Limesfalsum) of an as of Maximus, prototype dating to AD 236-8 (Reece Period 11), PIETAS AVG reverse depicting a collection of priestly implements used for sacrifice (lituus, knife, patera, jug, simpulum and sprinkler). Protype Mint of Rome. RIC IV, pt 2, p. 156, cf. no. 12b; BMC VI, pp. 239-40, cf. nos. 208-9. The surfaces show evidence of a high tin content. This coin could well have been produced in the AD 240s.
